The Reverend John Merz was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and is the soil from which he developed a keen interest in political thought, philosophy, and theology. He is an avid reader, often immersing himself in books on a wide range of subjects.
John has a passion for basketball and it has remained with him throughout his life. He is a fan of the NBA, spending countless lost hours listening to NBA radio.
Aside from his love for sports and intellectual pursuits, John also has a deep appreciation for NYC culture and the eccentric and the people who make it great. This passion for community led him to co-found the North Brooklyn Angels, a volunteer-driven project dedicated to building a stronger and more connected community.
John is happily married to his partner Tara Anderson, and they have two wonderful children together, Phaedra (9) and Vito (7)
